Women's World Cup 2023: Rapinoe branded 'arrogant' after video emerges of her ignoring young fan

Publish date: 2024-01-30

It hasn't been a good week for U.S. Women's National Team star Megan Rapinoe.

After the USWNT were eliminated from the World Cup on penalties by Sweden, the 38-year-old is now facing criticism after an old video resurfaced.

In it, Rapinoe is sitting in the crowd at the 2019 ESPY Awards in Los Angeles when a young fan comes over and asks her to autograph a ball.

Although she picks up and signs the ball, Rapinoe never actually acknowledges or interacts with the fan in front of her. Instead, she signs it and turns to speak to somebody walking in aisle.

"Imagine being such an arrogant Narcissist that you don't even look at a young fan and acknowledge them when signing a ball," wrote internet personality Oli London.

"This is Megan Rapinoe in a nut shell."

London isn't the only person to criticize Rapinoe for her behaviour.

Piers Morgan wasn't impressed either, writing: "Doesn't even look at him. Diabolical arrogance."

Another user wrote: "Pitiful."

"That's just so sad. That kid really looked up to her, to ask her for an autograph. She's a classic narcissist. I feel bad for the kid," added another.

Trump takes a shot at Rapinoe

Rapinoe missed the fourth penalty kick against Sweden on Sunday, sending it over the bar as the USWNT crashed out of the World Cup.

The exit prompted Donald Trump to blame the team's wokeness for its exit.

"The 'shocking and totally unexpected' loss by the U.S. Women's Soccer Team to Sweden is fully emblematic of what is happening to our once great Nation under Crooked Joe Biden," wrote Trump.

"WOKE EQUALS FAILURE," he continued. "Nice shot Megan, the USA is going to Hell!!!! MAGA."
