After high school, the up-and-coming player knew he wanted to take his love and passion for the game further, so he headed to Duke University, against his mother’s wishes to enroll at the University of Georgetown and against his father’s option of the University of North Carolina.

Career

At Duke University, he played four years with the Blue Devils. It won the national titles in 1991 and 1992 respectively, making Duke the first Division I program to win the title back-to-back since 1973.

In 1993, he won the Henry Iba Corinthian Award as the Nation’s Top Defensive Player, and the following year he was named ACC Player of the Year, becoming the first player in ACC history. ACC to record over 700 rebounds, 400 assists, 200 steals, 1,900 points and 100 blocked shots..

After the 2007-2008 season, Hill Grant became an unrestricted free agent, but it wasn’t long when his agent, Lon Babby, soon signed him with the Phoenix Suns, with whom he remained until the end of the 2011-12 season. After his contract with the Suns expired, teams such as the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Portland Trail Blazers and Miami Heat all came forward to sign him but Hill chose to leave with the Clippers.

During pre-season, he suffered an injury to his right knee which kept him out for three months. His first game with the Clippers came in January 2013, in a game against his former team, the Orlando Magic. That season, the Clippers finished 56-26, ranking 4th best in the Western Conference and winning the Pacific Division for the first time in franchise history.

After 19 seasons in the NBA, Grant Hill announced on June 1, 2013 that he was retiring from professional basketball and had joined NBA TV as an analyst.
